Emma Robson

Emma, from Cardiff in the UK, has been on the road with us in East and Southern Africa and South America since June 2015.

- What did you do for a living before becoming crew?

I was a Cardiac Physiologist at St. Thomas Hospital in London, so this has been a bit of a career change!

- Why did you become Dragoman crew?

I did two trips as a passenger, and loved overlanding so much that I realised that I would either spend my entire wages on more trips or apply as crew and do it full time! It's been the best decision I've ever made.

- What's your favourite destination?

I love the Okavango Delta in Botswana - watching a herd of elephants swim across to an island from our bushcamp has to be one of the highlights so far!

- What has been your favourite or most memorable occasion on the road?

Sleeping outside after a particularly stressful day at Sossusvlei in Namibia, and watching countless shooting stars fly across the sky. Incredible! Although ask me next week and I'll likely have replaced it with something new!

- What's the most essential item in your backpack?

My ipod. Every trip so far seems to have created its own soundtrack and every song reminds me of a different moment and makes me smile.

- What is your one piece of advice to future overlanders/passengers?

Go with the flow and join in as much as you can. Not everything will go to plan, but you never know what's around the corner - a detour may mean you discover something completely new and you could well make lifelong friends with your truck buddies.
