Global Mamas is an organisation in Ghana that works with women teaching them how to run their own business and make their own money through arts and crafts. They create items such as clothes, blankets and more using batik and other traditional methods. They not only focus on financial stability but also health and happiness for all women involved.
Global Mamas was founded in 2003 with only six producers, and today works with more than 350 Ghanaian producers. Global Mamas is committed to sustainable growth and since inception has created hundreds of jobs in Ghana. Fair Trade practices ensure that every Global Mama is paid a steady, living wage.
The impact of employing women is exponential as most of the Mamas employ other women, use their earnings to send their children to school, and spend the money they make in their local community.
