Foreign Travel Advice

Ecuador is all about its Andean heartland and its pristine Amazon jungle and its cities house some of South America's finest colonial masterpieces. Both Quito and Cuenca, home of the Panama hat, have the most beautiful churches and plazas on the continent. Ecuador is best known for the Galapagos, and if you start or finish this tour in Quito, you must try to add on a trip to the islands. The Ecuadorian Andes are both verdant and magnificent and it is well worth spending time, trekking, climbing or rafting here before heading into the rain forests of the Amazon. Crossing into Northern Peru, you leave the greenery behind you and head into dry deserts with the ancient civilisations and monuments of the Moche and the Chimu Indians; Indeed Chan Chan , capital of the Chimu's is the largest Adobe city in the world. Towering above the desert are the mighty Cordillera of the snow capped Andes, ideal for trekking in the Huaraz region. This trip visits the Huasquila Ecolodge, which promote ecotourism in the area.

3 night stay in a community run eco lodge to explore the Amazon Jungle
Go white water rafting, canyoning or trekking in Banos
Try horse back riding or mountain biking around the stunning landscape
Visit the crater lake of Quilotoa
Stay in the classic colonial city of Cuenca
Buy an original Panama hat direct from the factory
2 nights camping on the Pacific beach at Punta Sal
Try your hand at surfing or just relax with a cool drink
Explore the Chimu Adobe ruins of Chan Chan and the ancient Moche Pyramids
3 nights to trek in the Cordillera Blanca from Huaraz

A slow paced trip allowing us to explore the many faces of Ecuador & northern Peru. Small hotels, hostels and camping. Plenty of 2 or 3 night stays to allow opportunities for walking, rafting, hiking or just wandering. Ideal for lovers of history. A mix of mountains, jungles and great colonial cities. A great little journey.

Spend 3 nights at our fantastic Ecuadorian ecolodge taking in many activities such as boat trips on the Napo River visits to local communities and treks through the jungle to some spectacular waterfalls and bat caves!

Guided tour of Moche Pyramids and the Chimu city of Chan Chan

Joanna H

All of our guides throughout the trip have been excellent, especially our guide for Nazca.

Kathryn M

This was a great mix of group travel with the ability to be independent if you wished. The tour leaders were fun, engaging and made you feel at ease instantly

Neil R

Enjoyed the whole experience

Bryony S

The days in the Amazon were the highlight

Heather H

A safe easy way to travel.

Simon J

Overlanding may not be for everyone as it is very much a shared travelling experience. This was our second trip with Dragoman after hopping off the truck in Santiago and travelling independently for a couple of months before re-joining the same truck in Lima. As before, we very much enjoyed the whole journey and also the wonderful crew and fellow travellers, who are all now active personal friends on social media well after the trip.

dennis R

Very good as usual.

Albert V

The first thing i noticed is how welcoming everyone was , it felt like i was traveling with family,

Jonathan P

All the local guides were excellent.

Helen W

Fantastic drivers, I found them both to be always approachable & helpful.

Paul L

As a trio I beleive Rachel Jaime and Rich were a very good team as they all brought very different qualities to the job. I would say that Rachel was the most organised leader I had during the whole trip, Jamie's language came in very handy on this leg, and Rich was very enthusiastic and encouraged people to get involved

Michiel B

Guides at Chan Chan, Chugchilan, and the Amazon were all perfect. Good local knowledge and shared their country.

Linda V

Great crew. Nick has a lot of knowledge and doesn't mind sharing! Gave us good advice on where to go and what to do. Took plenty of time to explain things and answer questions. Juan is a great driver.

Eveline C

The local guides were without exception very knowledgeable and helped me make the most of my holiday.

Goetz Christoph K

Everybody was happy, great guys.

Barbara Martina T

Thanks for taking care of us and making sure everyone was fine! You did a great job! Would love to be on tour with you again someday soon :)

Franco B

Vikki worked extremely hard to solve any problems that arose and was extremely considerate towards the people who got ill while travelling, getting them upgrades wherever possible etc.

Susan H

Brilliant and passionate guides - so informative about their country and history, and they also had fantastic senses of humour.
