Foreign Travel Advice

The Caucasus are an area of the world that are just coming to the attention of western travellers. We have been travelling through Georgia and Azerbaijan now for over 20 years, but Armenia is new for 2020 and it's the perfect addition as it complements Georgia so well. Indeed their mutual history is inextricably linked together and the culture, architecture, and the religion need to be seen together. Azerbaijan is a very different nation, but equally interesting. A deeply secular state fuelled by a oil driven economy, with a wonderfully modern and interesting capital city of Baku. But throughout the three countries, the sinews of Imperial and Soviet Russia still are very apparent and bind the three countries together.

Stay in the fascinating city of Tbilisi
Visit Vardzia, a cave monastery on the UNESCO World Heritage list
Explore Armenia's ancient city of Gyumri, with its great churches and Soviet Era grandeur
Explore the Armenia's capital, Yerevan and learn about its extensive history
Visit Lake Sevan a high altitude lake known for its beaches
Hike to the amazing Gergeti Trinity Church at Stepantsminda
Visit Georgian Vineyards in Telavi for wine tasting
Explore the 1797 built Palace of the Sheki Khans
Explore the old town of Baku

An amazing journey for those who love getting off the beaten track, discovering history and remarkable ways of life and who are curious. For this is a journey for the curious. Good Hotels, wild camping, hostels and homestays, with a mixture of great modern roads and ancient mountain tracks. An easy lifestyle but be prepared for extremes of climate.
