Foreign Travel Advice

The trip name says it all; the Chaos, Charm and the Calm. The Chaos comes first. In fact, it virtually hits you in the face - try crossing the road in Kolkata and you will understand this. What a city Kolkata is; manic, mad and magnificent in a fading and time ravished manner, but no visit to India is complete without spending a couple of days experiencing this charming place.

Equally, India is about train travel and so we include an overnight journey northwards to the foothills of the Himalayas and on to Darjeeling. Here is India's most famous train trip of all; the Toy train of Darjeeling. The narrow gauge track winds its way through villages and towns and up into the mountains to the city of Darjeeling. This is where the calm takes over and we walk and relax in the hills, five hours away from the city on a small farm retreat.

Add in the splendour of the mighty mountains in Sikkim and its Buddhist charms, wildlife and spectacular drives in Nepal and you have a trip that you just should not miss.

Simone E

Gino and Jim kept the vehicle and equipment in excellent condition.

Jesse Y

Rachel and Rob were both great on this trip.

Catherine Frances D

From the start of the booking process I have had a mix of fantastic service/experiences and a few that were entirely satisfactory. I had travelled with dragoman about 6 yrs ago, so I had high expectations which were largely met.

Thomas G

Very spacious. Loved the huge windows and the mp3 in the back

Kristy M

Superb. Both Gino and Jim were fabulous. Not a bad word to say.

Margitta M

Nice, motivated and motivating, helpful, best team I can imagine

Karen Skau H

Gino was a superb guide for us. Very caring and empathic.

William O

Excellent, excellent, was 13 years since my last trip & was NOT disappointed, from booking to departure was seamless :-)

Mark H

My first Dragoman trip, pretty much satisfied - Rachel was very good.

Alexander F

This was a fantastic trip, the guides were awesome, the group was awesome, the areas we went to were magic!

Erik P

Overall the trip was good. We stayed at some so-so places, and some really great places, and got to see some wierd and wonderfull things. However, there was some wrong things. 1 - The kitty was 500 USD, not 480. 2 - We did not need camping gear, at all. Tents were only offered on 1 night, and even then was an option to get a hut for 10 USD, which is much preferable to using half your luggage and carrying sleeping bag and mat up and down the many many stairs in Himalaya for 16 days.

Jonathan S

All good. It’s like travelling but without having to be organised. And travelling by truck is great - it’s a great way to see the country without having to worry that the driver is a lunatic. You are, however, stuck with the same people for a number of weeks. I would like to suggest some way of vetting these people - there is a definite opportunity to be stuck with one or two oddballs. I appreciate the need for patience with these things, but if you’re talking about months on the road then it can get very difficult.

Roberta M

I loved Kolkata, Darjeeling, Karmi farm, scenery in Sikkim, Koshi nat park & Kathmandu.

Alice B

Particularly enjoyed the karmi farm visit and hotoshi national park safari tents

Amy B

I thought it was excellent. We visited fantastic places that I would never have gone to without Dragoman. Good balance between travel and spending time. The leaders were amazing. So friendly, helpful and fun.
