Foreign Travel Advice

Journey from the tribes, mountains, forests and plains of East Africa to the wildlife parks and deserts of the south. Go in search of the Big Five as you visit some of the continents finest national parks including Etosha, Chobe, Samburu and Etosha.

You will truly get off the beaten track as you overland between Ethiopia and Kenya, enjoying a homestay with the Samburu people of northern Kenya. Further along the way you’ll meet mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in Uganda and elephants, lions, cheetahs and more in Tanzania and Kenya and again in Botswana and in Namibia. However, it's the raw experience of walking safaris to find white rhino in Zimbabwe and canoeing down Zambian rivers in the Lower Zambezi region that get you right up close to Africa's flora and fauna.

With a mixture of wildlife, hiking and other activities this trip will keep you enthralled as you work your way through the itinerary. Leaving lots of time to explore at your own pace we’ll get you away from the tourist trail and genuinely off the beaten track.

Explore chaotic and bustling Addis Ababa
Guided tour of the ancient UNESCO city of Harar
Witness the traditional feeding of the hyenas
Follow the scout along the trails of Awash NP
Take a boat trip across Lake Ziway and explore the Coptic monastery
2 days hiking in the beautiful Bale Mountains
Search for a rare sighting of Ethiopian wolves on the Sanetti Plateau
Relax in the Hot Springs at Wendo Genet
Optional trip to 'Crocodile Market' in Arba Minch

This trip is a real mixture, overall the infrastructure in terms of roads, camp sites and hotels is good and so life is mostly pretty easy. You’ll have a cook with you (except for the section north of Nairobi) to help with cooking and camp duties. However at stages we will travel through rarely-visited areas which means that creature comforts can be sparse. Be prepared to mix comfort with adventure on this varied journey!

Enjoy a full day city tour of Addis Ababa

Take a guided tour for half of the day through the winding streets of this ancient city.

Witness Harar's tradition of feeding wild Hyenas by hand each evening just outside the city walls

Head out with a scout to explore the trails of this National Park.

Horse/mule treks or guided hikes through Bale Mountain National Park
